If you’re looking for your Monday FUZZ edition, it hasn’t disappeared among the spam or Gmail filters — I’m taking a week off to recharge and bank a few new interviews and articles before hitting the road again.
If you need a Monday read, don’t forget about Pazi’s Pallas — they just published a thoughtful article about the weirdness of being able to accurately identify wild animals on sight. Turns out our brains are wired for the subtle differences in appearance, particularly when they’re in the face.
And if you need another Substack recommendation, I’m really enjoying Beaks and Bones by Maja Mielke. On all my trips out in the wild, we end up spending a lot of time looking at and talking about birds while waiting on the more elusive, bigger mammals. Maja’s Substack gives some excellent deep dives into the weird world of birds, with well-written explanations on anatomy, behavior, appearance and anything else you might be curious about.
Check out Pazi and Maja’s work, and I’ll see you next Monday with more.
